Is love eternal?

Walter A asks:

Is love eternal? I have heard the promise all the time: “I will love you forever. This life and on the afterlife”. This is assuming the loving person will move to a new plane where loving is allowed (heaven?).

Since there is no afterlife. Love ends with death.

One Response to Is love eternal?

  1. The Atheist says:

Even if we imagine that there is eternal life in which it is possible to love, the promise also assumes that in all eternity, the person never once reneges on the promise to love – not even for a temporary span of time, however short.

I don’t think the sentiment really depends on eternal life being real though. I think it means that at the time someone promises to love forever, he is simply saying that his love is such that he is unable to imagine ever not loving.
