Lev 20:13 and Homosexuality

New thread courtesy of Edwin – he writes:

I would like to mention something about one of the verses you used in a posting about homosexuality.

“Lev 20:13 – If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. ”

That does not condemn homosexual relations. Women in biblical times were considered as property, while a man was above her. This verse merely says that if you are disrespectful of a man you have sex with, you are committing an abomination, while it is A-OK to treat a woman like crap.

    I agree that women were treated much like property in the ancient Levant, but I don’t think that that’s enough reason to read your interpretation into the verse. The majority of Lev 20 (that is, verses 10 – 20) deals with specifying various types of sexual misconduct and their punishment. It seems that Lev 20:13 should be understood within this context. In that case, it really does condemn male-male sexual relations.

  2. Bible Prophecy says:

    The Holy Bible says,

    “Do NOT lie with a man as one lies with a woman;
    that is detestable.” (Leviticus 18:22).

    God foresaw that “…men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. (Romans 1:27).

    God also foresaw that “…women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.” (Romans 1:26).

    Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. (Romans 1:24).

    Do you not know that…homosexual offenders…
    will NOT inherit the kingdom of God? (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
